Africa Update 1

July 15 - After 3 days of travel we've arrived at our first destination: Sango, in the Save Valley Conservancy. We are far out in the 'bush.' Unfortunately, our luggage didn't make it, and we won't see it for at least 5 days. The animals will smell us coming! We will have the ability to do laundry though, and yes, we will shower. The beauty here is stunning - God's creation is beyond words! And after having only been in the bush for at absolute MOST 2 hours, we came face to face with a very rare, and very dangerous, Black Rhino! She was with her baby, which made it even more precarious. In the end, we stared at each other, and then they left. Just a little greeting from God's amazing creatures, that were nearly extinct just a few years ago. Here's a pic from the encounter.

Africa Update 2

We made the journey to what is called "Village 26" - a resettlement village, where our church, Highpoint Church, has helped install a well for fresh water. Previously the people of the village walked MILES for fresh water. In addition to drinking water, the well serves the cattle, and has allowed for a large community garden to be established (Pictured below.) While there we discussed plans for the next step, which will ensure clean water, and double the size of their food plot! A great and exciting day for all of us.

Africa Update 3

Today was a special day in Mafaune. Highpoint has made extensive investment here in this 'seemingly forgotten' village. But we know God has not forgotten the people of Mafaune! Construction of the church building is nearing completion, and we shared some awesome time with the congregation singing under the tree where it all started. I will have video of that to upload at some point. Powerful! Also, we met with the village leader to survey the land right next to the church, that they have given us to build a medical clinic - an exciting new adventure. You'll be hearing more about this and how we can make this a reality in the near future.

We also had an incredible time with the children at Mafaune Primary School. In the past we repaired the well here so that the children have fresh water again - we heard stories of how they used to be rationed one small cup of water for the entire day! In addition, the garden we helped them start previously is having some challenges, so we met to address the issues and get them back to full food production again. What was amazing to me was to watch our kids interact and make instant friends with the kids from the school - a proud parent moment, if I must say.
